Guided tours are available October through May, Tuesday and Thursday at 10am, 11am and 12pm. Go to "Education" and click on "Field Trips/Group Sales" for tour topics. Advance reservation is recommended. Self guided tours available Tuesday-Sunday. Adult tours are available on Wednesday at 11am, 1pm and 2pm. School GroupsThe Wildlife Experience now offers scholarships to schools demonstrating financial need.Click here to download a scholarship application. Groups can make the most of their visit by embarking on a guided group tour or a self-guided adventure with the Explorer Passport. To take advantage of one (or both) of these learning experiences simply tell the staff member while making your reservation. To make a reservation call 720.488.3344. GROUP TOURS ($1.25 per person) October 2007 - May 2008Guided tours are approximately 45 minutes in length. Your group will be divided into smaller groups for a better learning experience. Most tours can be modified to fit any age group including adults. Be sure to indicate grade level so we can make adjustments to fit their needs. All tours will involve hands-on encounters with real animal furs, skulls and other biofacts relating to the tour topic.Furs, Feathers, Scales and Skin (Preschool) Using observation, students will identify animal groups by their appearances. The students will get to see and feel the differences and similarities between bird, mammal, reptile and amphibian body coverings. This class is limited to groups of 20 or less. Registration is required and can be done by calling 720.488.3344. Animal Adaptations (2nd through 6th grade) Science 1; Science 3 What does it take for animals to survive in their habitats? Learn about behavior, camouflage and other adaptations that help animals live in their environments. Check out animal skins and skulls and take a visit to the African grasslands. The Skin They're In (2nd through 6th grade) Science 1; Science 3 Mammal? Bird? Fish? Amphibian? Reptile? To which group does it belong? Learn about the specifics of how animals are classified and why it is important to be able to put animals in groups. Practice your classification skills and check out animal skins up close. What is a Habitat? (1st through 5th grade) Science 1; Science 3; Geography 2 What is a habitat? Learn what things all animals need to survive and what happens when not all of them are available. Talk specifically about the grasslands and the amazing plants and animals that live there, including black-tailed prairie dogs! Frequently asked questionsHow long is a typical visit?Visiting times vary, but generally it takes about an hour and a half to go through the exhibits. Extreme Screen Theater films run approximately 35-45 minutes, and don’t forget to count the time you will spend in the Toucan Café and Boatique gift store! Groups generally spend about 3-4 hours at The Wildlife Experience. I have a reservation, now what do I do? Browsing our web site is a great place to start. You can find information on current and upcoming exhibits, films and show times, events, and educational programs to help plan you visit. You will receive a confirmation packet from the Group Reservationist in the mail; please review all materials with your chaperones, and sign the Group Reservation Agreement. If your school group is scheduled for a guided tour, please contact the Education Department at 720.488.3300 for questions. Tour times vary and are based on the number of students in your group. How early do we need to arrive? Please maintain your arrival time. Groups that arrive late for their scheduled film will not be admitted into the theater and will have to see a later show, if timing permits. If you are running late, please call the admissions desk at 720.488.3336. What is the chaperone ratio? A chaperone is any teacher, staff member, parent, grandparent, or other caregiver accompanying the group and is responsible for the group during a visit to the museum. Chaperones help children explore the museum’s exhibits and create a successful visit for the entire group. The Wildlife Experience will admit one adult free of charge for every five paying students (school groups only); however, all groups are required to have a minimum of one adult chaperone for every ten children. How do I pay for my group? Payment must be made upon arrival. Please do not send payment in advance. We accept cash, checks, American Express, Visa, and MasterCard. Payment must be made in full and should include ALL adults and children in your group. Anyone that is not included in the initial payment will be required to pay full price. What about parking? Parking is free at The Wildlife Experience. Bus drivers may drop students off at the entrance and are required to park the bus towards the back of the lot. Is there a place to have lunch during our visit? Your group is welcome to bring sack lunches and eat outside on the grass or at the tables in the courtyard. In case of inclement weather, we will do our best to accommodate your group, but space indoors cannot be guaranteed. A coat closet will be provided for you to store lunches but you will need to provide a storage container. Please leave backpacks on the bus if possible. The Toucan Café is also available and groups are required to preorder prior to arrival. You can view the menu by clicking here. What if my numbers change from my original confirmation? Not a problem! Just provide us with a final count of adults and children upon arrival. Are there educational materials available? Scavenger hunts are available at the Admissions Desk for children grades K - Six. Please let us know ahead of time if you would like to participate so we can have adequate copies made.
