Press ReleaseDenver Public Schools Teacher to Take Students on ‘Wild’ Light Rail JourneyContact: Keith Carlson - (720) 488-3331DENVER - December 4, 2006 - On Wednesday, December 6, Jo Carrigan, a Denver Public Schools teacher that was awarded the “9 Teachers Who Care” distinction in February of 2006 by KUSA 9News and CollegeInvest, will be taking her class on a wild journey to The Wildlife Experience via the recently-opened Light Rail line. From Kaiser Elementary School to The Wildlife Experience, in Parker, Colorado, Carrigan will rely entirely on public transportation to take her class of approximately 25 students to Douglas County’s largest cultural attraction for an entertaining and educational field trip. “We’re excited to have Jo Carrigan and her students visit The Wildlife Experience by using the new Light Rail line,” says president of The Wildlife Experience, Gino Greco. “From start to finish, it will be a learning experience for her students. They will learn how to utilize public transportation, and while here, they will have a great time learning about the world’s wildlife and habitats and be entertained by one of our Extreme Screen Theater films.” While the opening of the new Light Rail line has opened up a new mode of transportation for business commuters to travel into the city, it has also opened up a way for people to reach destinations just outside the Denver city limits. “It is incredibly convenient,” states Greco. “Once visitors reach the I-25 and Lincoln station, there’s a bus that runs along Lincoln Avenue with a stop in front of our facility. Jo Carrigan is demonstrating just how convenient and efficient it is by bringing her class to The Wildlife Experience along that very route.” Jo Carrigan was named a “9 Teachers Who Care” in February of 2006. She was selected for her non-traditional classroom tactics, dedication to the profession of teaching and for the work ethic and curiosity she instills in her students. Carrigan and her students will arrive at the I-25 and Lincoln Avenue Light Rail station at approximately 10:57 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6. They will then arrive at The Wildlife Experience to enjoy lunch, a film in the Extreme Screen Theater and a tour of the museum and exhibits. They will arrive back at the Light Rail station at 2:00 p.m. to return to their school. The Wildlife Experience, a museum located just south of DTC, features interactive and hands-on exhibits, fine art, natural history and large-format film.
