There’s Much Ado About Mothing at The Wildlife Experience!

DENVER - August 18, 2005 - The Wildlife Experience will be aflutter with moths and other winged insects, as it will host two exhibits that focus on the beauty and diversity of moths. Mothing: Digital Prints by Joseph Scheer and Out of the Dark/Into the Light will both be on display at The Wildlife Experience August 27, 2005 through January 1, 2006.

Mothing: Digital Prints by Joseph Scheer is comprised of approximately 60 images of the winged creatures, many of which are magnified to reveal rich detail and textures. Stunning digital images portray the beauty, oddities and the individuality of moths and butterflies. Scheer, a professor of Print Media at the Institute for Electronic Arts at the School of Art and Design, Alfred University, has current works that span print media, video and web-based projects. He uses technology to re-examine nature through interpretive collecting and visual recording. His images have also been published in National Geographic. Mothing will provide a close look at the complexities of a variety of beautiful winged insects.

Out of the Dark/Into the Light is a collection of butterflies, moths and beetles by local collector, Russell Witkop, which perfectly complements Scheer's Mothing exhibit. The displays are both scientific and artistic as they display the natural beauty of each specimen while providing a chance to examine their physiology and structure. Hobbyists will enjoy a display of collecting and pinning equipment along with this exhibit of natural specimens.

On Saturday, August 27, Joseph Scheer and Russel Witkop will be conducting walking presentations through their exhibits at 10:00 a.m. Following the presentations, Joseph Scheer will be available to sign his book, Night Visions, which is available in The Wildlife Experience’s gift shop.
