"Robert Bateman: A Retrospective" Comes to The Wildlife Experience

DENVER - November 1, 2002 - One of the world's best known and most influential wildlife artists, Robert Bateman, brings his latest exhibit to The Wildlife Experience Museum. The museum is proud to host "Robert Bateman: A Retrospective", from Nov. 9, 2002 to Jan. 31, 2003.

Bateman's paintings are in private collections, including those of Prince Phillip and Prince Charles of England, and in public collections worldwide. A leading member of the Society of Animal Artists, Bateman has enjoyed a number of museum exhibitions, including a Smithsonian exhibit that drew record-breaking crowds. There are four best-selling books on Bateman's life and work, a children's book, and several films. Among Bateman's many awards are nine honorary doctorates from Canadian and American universities. There have also been two schools named after the prestigious artist, -one in Ontario and the other in British Columbia.

A traveling exhibit organized by the William S. Fairfield Public Gallery, "Robert Bateman: A Retrospective," features more than 30 major paintings and additional works on paper, including a personal sketchbook containing studies, for the artist's book, Thinking Like a Mountain. A bronze sculpture Bateman modeled will also be on display. The museum's gift shop will carry a variety of Bateman's most popular prints and books.

Bateman will appear at The Wildlife Experience, Nov. 8-9, in conjunction with the exhibition. The artist will discuss his work and sign books at a special preview reception Friday, Nov. 8, from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Hot and cold hor d'ouevres will be served. Cost is $25 a person. Seating is limited. Saturday, Nov. 9, Bateman will present a slide show from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. in the museum's giant screen theater and then sign books until noon. The lecture is included in museum admission.

A natural history and wildlife art museum, The Wildlife Experience is located at 10035 South Peoria St., Parker, CO., approximately five miles south of the Denver Tech Center and one mile east of I-25 at the intersection of Lincoln Ave. and S. Peoria.

One of the primary goals of The Wildlife Experience is to instill a love and respect of all things wild through education and example, and inspire those who visit the museum and its unique galleries to become involved in conservation efforts. The museum houses an extensive permanent collection of wildlife art, including original oils, watercolors, sculpture and photography. Galleries such as Vanishing Africa and the Conservation Gallery, display pieces of the collection as well as various natural history components including animal and cultural artifacts, interactive activity centers, and reading corners.
