Art and the Animal Visits the Wildlife Experience Museum

DENVER- March 18, 2002- For museum lovers of all ages, The Wildlife Experience, promises to capture their curiosity by hosting the Society of Animal Artists Exhibit as part of their Grand Opening. The 42nd Annual Exhibition of the Society of Animal Artists, sometimes known as "Art and the Animal," will open as part of the museum's grand opening on Saturday, August 31, 2002. This energizing exhibit features over 150 paintings and sculptures, created by an array of artists, including works by Robert Bateman, Guy Cohleach, and John Seery-Lester.

"The Society of Animal Artists Exhibit will delight visitors of all ages with extraordinary paintings, sculptures, and carvings that represent their favorite animals," said Dr. Rick Smartt, Executive Director of the Museum. "Not only will this exhibit thrill them, but the interactive exhibits themed around wildlife conservation are sure to be an adventure for everyone." The Wildlife Experience Museum will host the Art and Animal Show through November 2002.

Construction of Colorado's newest homegrown attraction is proceeding ahead of schedule, thanks to a mild autumn and a warm winter, and the extraordinary efforts of Saunders Construction. With its tall concrete walls in place, The Wildlife Experience is fast assuming a recognizable shape - one destined to be a local landmark and favorite attraction for years to come. Groundbreaking on the museum was June of 2001.

At present, the laminated wood beams of the Great Hall are being installed. Like the bones of a great beast, the beams will soon give form to the huge space, with its immense vaulted ceiling. By early spring the interior work will begin, with galleries and other rooms coming to life from the blueprints of architects Klipp Colussy Jenks DuBois of Denver, in association with Overland Partners of San Antonio, Texas.

Situated on more than 14 acres in Meridian Park, The Wildlife Experience will offer 101,000 square feet of wildlife art, interactive exhibits, and banquet facilities. It will feature nine galleries, a giant extreme screen Iwerks theater, a large children's gallery complete with an interactive arts center, and several traveling exhibits. For admission prices, museum and theater hours, and any other information please call (720) 488-3303 or visit The Wildlife Experience website at www.thewildlifeexperience.org.
